"This website contains the on-line versions of books previously published in hard copy by the Federal Research Division of the Library of Congress under the Country Studies/Area Handbook Program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Army."
  • Aneki.com: Country Information, Regional and World Rankings Despite some commercialism, Aneki.com provides another approach to information about countries. It provides statistical facts, figures, rankings and general information for continents and over 190 countries in Africa, the Middle East, Europe, Asia, North America, Central America, South America, and Oceania. Much of the information is based upon the World Factbook of the CIA.
  • Portals to the World Library of Congress links to countries for country reports, travel, and genealogy. Larger countries have more diverse and larger hotlists.
  • Best of History Web Sites "...reviews some of the best history websites available. Top level categories include Prehistory, Medieval, U.S. History, Early Modern European, 20th Century, World War II, and Art History."
  • On This Day: Archive of New York Times front page articles. Complete front page is presented with key articles provided full-text.
  • Today in History: Searchable archive of historic events for each day. Includes links to primary sources of the American Memory collections.
  • World Fact Book Provides facts, statistics, flags, and much more information about the geography, people, economy, transportation, government, communication, and defense of the nations of the world. Select country from drop down alphabetical list.

  • National Archives and Records Administration Contains historical records of US government agencies, manuscripts, documents, maps, access to Presidential library collections, African American resources, and much more.

  • ARTFL Project of University of Chicago Project for American and French Research on the Treasury of the French Language. Includes many resources in French and English, such as the French Bible, pamphlets of the French Revolution, the Encyclopedie Project (complete text of Diderot and d'Alembert's compendium of Enlightened knowledge), French Illuminated manuscripts, and more.
  • Internet Indian History Sourcebook Many resources about Ancient, Medieval, and Modern India from Fordham University.
  • Global Gateway, World Culture & Resources, The International Digital Collections of the Library of Congress.
  • Modern History Sourcebook from Fordham University. Covers world history from Reformation through 20th century. Some links no longer work but the site does include useful primary source documents.
  • Modern History in the Movies provides titles with annotations about presentation of history in movies
  • Rulers: "lists of heads of state and heads of government (and de facto leaders not occupying either of those formal positions) of all countries and territories, going back to about 1700 in most cases.... lists by month of the comings and goings in national governments from 1996 to the present."

  • Women's History Sourcebook from Fordham University. Some links no longer work but there are useful primary sources still available through this site.
  • DoHistory. Site devoted to piecing together primary resource materials. Site includes sample materials and a case study called "A Midwife's Tale."
  • National Security Archive Declassified U.S. Government documents are available from George Washington University. Some of these primary sources include "The Real Thirteen Days" (Cuban Missile Crisis), "Fujimori's Rasputin" (background documents that explain Peru's sudden shift in leadership), and the "U.S. and Chinese Nuclear Programs (1960-1964)." Many documents have blacked out areas that contain information that still might threaten national security. Archive of September 11th events.
  • WWW Virtual Library: International Affairs Resources is a hotlist of great resources: newspapers and radio stations from around the world, maps, global and cross cultural issues from a global perspective. Site hotlinks are organized by topic, regions (such as the Middle East, Africa, Asia), organizations, and media source types.

  • AMDOCS: primary source documents for the study of American History.
  • Avalon Project at Yale Law School-- Full-text archives Major historical documents dating from B.C.E. to the 21st century are presented in entirety, with links to supporting documents, glossaries and indexes for each one. Major documents relevant to Law, History, Economics, Politics, Diplomacy and Government can be found here.
  • Cold War: The Cold War International History Project "disseminates new information and perspectives on the history of the Cold War, in particular new findings from previously inaccessible sources on "the other side" -- the former Communist world. " from the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. Site includes documents, links, and other materials relating to the cold War, international relations, Communism, and terrorism.
  • Internet Public Library Contains great selection of resources. This site provides a search engine for access to the rich collection in Geography and History.
  • Multilaterals Project of the Fletcher School of Law & Diplomacy of Tufts University The Multilaterals Project, begun in 1992, is an ongoing project designed to make available the texts of international multilateral conventions and other instruments. Provides search engine.
  • EuroDocs: primary historical documents from Western Europe: transcriptions, facsimiles, and translations.
  • Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The dopted and proclaimed by the United Nations in 1948. Text available in English and other languages
  • Emergence of Advertising in America 1850-1920 Documents of original images from advertising

  • Medici Archive Project The enormous archive of the Medici family based in Florence contains primary source documents such as thousands of letters written during the 16th century. Art works are also included. Site includes Arts & Humanities, Jewish History, and Costume & Textiles sections.
  • Last Expression: Art from Auschwitz
    The Block Museum at Northwestern University features the art created by prisoners at Auschwitz-Birkenau during their Holocaust incarceration. Art is browsable by media, artist, or location. Biographies of the artists explain how they came to create the artwork. Includes a tour of the site.
  • History Matters: US History course on the web. Designed for high school and college teachers of U.S. History courses, the site includes primary documents, in text, image and audio. It emphasizes the experience of "ordinary" Americans. It also serves as a gateway to Web resources and offers useful materials for teaching U.S. history. An activity based on Dorothea Lange's "Migrant Mother" requires shockwave.

  • Mountain Voices "This website presents interviews with over 300 people who live in mountain and highland regions round the world. Their testimonies offer a personal perspective on change and development." The interviews offer personal perspectives on change and development in countries such as Mexico, Peru, Lesotho, Kenya, Ethiopia, Paffect individuals in different countries and provides a means to learn of the past and present of many native peoples in the world, as well as the realities of the global economy in these regions.
